Building Leadership

Annette Sauceda, Principal

Dr. Annette Sauceda proudly serves as principal of Heartland Elementary. She brings more than two decades of experience in education, including many years in school leadership. Her journey in education has been guided by a deep commitment to students, staff and families.

Originally from Morgantown, West Virginia, Sauceda earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from West Virginia University. She began her teaching career in Orlando, Florida before moving to Overland Park in 2006. Her work in Blue Valley has included roles as a math teacher, school improvement specialist, administrative intern, assistant principal and now principal. She earned her administrative license from Baker University in 2007 and completed her doctorate in educational leadership in 2017.

Sauceda and her husband, Tony, have twin sons, Miles and Keenan, who attend Blue Valley West High School. Their family also includes two miniature dachshunds, Minnie and Oliver, and two chinchillas, Henry and Archer. She believes that being an educator makes her a better parent—and being a parent makes her a better educator. Her approach to leadership is grounded in the belief that everyone in the school community is in it together.
